Discord is a fantastic little chat program. It's a mixture of AIM, Slack, Skype, and IRC! As a throwback to the AIM chats of old, Soulgemmed has adopted it as a chatroom. Members and prospective applicants are welcome to join! Here is an invite link!

This entry is a crash-course in using discord.

The chat setup looks like this. Each channel is a different chatroom. For example, appchat is for players discussing characters they want to app or seeking help with their applications, whereas "chatter" is a general chat where players can discuss anything from fandoms to toe lint.

The rules for the chat are as follows:

Be good to each other! This chat is for fun and we want to ensure it stays fun. If anything happens that makes you feel uncomfortable or unsettled, please let the mods know!

No spamming, please! Do not post NSFW content in the channels. Discord automatically shows all pictures and we have players who use the server while at work.

Be equally mindful of posting spoilers! If there is enough drive to talk about certain fandoms, we may make a channel specifically for discussing those things.

In that line, please try to keep conversations to their respective channels! Chatter is a catch all for talking, plotchat is for serious plotting, eventchat is for discussing the event.

NOTE: Chat is not the best place to ask the mods questions. Even @ing one of the mods is not a guarantee that we'll see the question in a timely manner! Please continue to PM us on the mod journal or ask questions on the FAQ!

Now for basic setup, click on the gear icon by the chat box to change your user icon. Right click on your name in the channel list to change your display name.

We're using the "roles" in Discord to list people's characters! It looks like this. Once in the chat, you can either directly message a mod or use the @ command to notify us that you're in - please list your characters and the color you'd like to have!

You'll also want to use the command `pmmentions on to turn on a function that will PM you when someone pings you in chat.

Characters will be rewarded points for their activity. These points can be used to redeem items.

For every ten comments made in-game, characters will receive one point.
For every fifteen comments made to the TDM, characters will receive one point.
For every twenty comments made to a character's inbox, characters will receive one point.
For every new post made in-game, characters will receive one point.

Here's the point breakdown:

5 pointsSmall item with no magical properties
10 pointsSmall item with negligible magical properties
20 pointsMid-sized item with no magical properties
25 pointsWeapon with no magical properties
30 pointsMid-sized item with negligible magical properties
40 pointsWeapon with negligible magical properties
50+ pointsAnything that provides a more significant advantage

Threads must contain at least four comments from your character in order to be eligible.

If you are seeking an item regain, leave a comment in this entry with a description of the item you wish to regain. Please assume that all mods are canonblind. The mods will then determine how many points the item will cost, at which point you will need to reply to the mods with a link to the character's point upkeep post.

The code required can be found below. It has been tested with Rich Text and works well with it, which should make it an easily editable template.

In-universe, the item will mysteriously show up at the character's doorstep, neatly wrapped up in a nice package.

Canon updating a character is a simple process. That character simply "goes native" for one week, after which they finally come to with all the additional knowledge that their canon update affords them.

In order to update your character, please fill out the form below and leave a comment.

Rules

Nov. 25th, 2015 09:03 pm
soulmods: (Default)
A two strike system is in place to protect the playerbase. This applies to the following: infomodding, godmodding, and disregard for the regulations and restrictions put in place on the game setting.

What it does not apply to is the following: harassment, abuse, bullying, stalking, ship pushing, and general player-on-player aggression. All of these are subject to a zero-tolerance policy. There are two sides to every story so we will speak to all parties to get the full understanding of the situation, but the severity of these actions will not be taken lightly.

If we are approached with concerns about a player's previous game behavior, they will not be forgotten or dismissed. Depending on the severity, the player may receive a pre-emptive warning, strike, or even ban. We will not tolerate players being made to feel uncomfortable in an environment that should be for fun.

The IC/OOC divide has to be firmly kept in place. If a player is blurring the line and it is causing problems, please contact the mods ASAP. As this is another animal entirely and combines both of the above, it will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

Please take any situation or sign of the above to the moderators of this game.

In addition to this, there is a penalty against idling out. The first time a player idles they must wait a week before reapplying. The second time, the player must wait a week and the character will lose all points they accumulated during their time in the game. If there is a good reason that prevented the player from filling out AC we ask players contact us immediately so an accommodation can be made.

Application Guidelines

Player name: Your name.
Contact info: Your preferred method of contact.
Other characters currently played: Please include other Soulgemmed characters only.

Character name: Your character's full name in Western order (given name, then surname).
Age: Your character's age. If unknown, please give us a rough estimate.
Canon: Your character's canon. CRAUs and AUs must specify.
Canonpoint: A brief description of which point in their canon the character is being taken from.

Background:
Wiki links are allowed. OCs will need to go in-depth and provide a description of the world that they are from so that a greater understanding of its culture and history can be gleaned.
CRAUs must provide a bullet point list of their previous game history and explain how their characters have been affected by these new experiences.

Personality:
Describe your character's personality in detail - their motivations, their worldview, their strengths and flaws. Use evidence from canon to support your points. Try to aim for under one thousand words.

Wish:
What wish does your character make to end up here? How do you want it granted? The wish is the most important part of the application. Please describe the thoughts and feelings behind the wish in as much detail as possible, as well as what led the character to making this wish and how it will be granted. Be sure to choose a wish suited to your character's personality or else you will be asked to revise. Please provide the exact wording of the wish in quotation marks. Refer to the wishes section of this entry for more information.

Passive ability & Active ability:
Which abilities would you like your character to be given on arrival? Your character gets both an active and passive ability. The nature of the abilities must relate in some way to the wish made. Please explain how your abilities relate to your wish, even if you feel that the correlation is obvious. If your abilities are meant to be versatile, please be thorough in describing the ways in which you intend to utilize said powers. Describe its limitations in depth. You will be expected to rigidly adhere to the description you give here of the power's utility.

Please look under "power breakdown" for information on this. If you're in need of ideas, try the superpower wiki!

Weapon:
The weapon your character gains the ability to summon. No need to go into detail. It would just be a regular weapon with no additional abilities, unless you want to dedicate a power to infusing it with magical abilities later.

Sample:
Both threads and third person samples are allowed. Threads must contain at least fifteen comments from your character. Third person samples must contain at least two lines of character dialogue so that we can determine your grasp on your character's voice.
